"Belief 'THAT' Versus Belief 'IN'"

Examining The Difference Between Knowledge and Trust

Belief 'THAT' Versus Belief 'IN'

This message was written for an adult congregation, and, unlike the other messages in our series, it was preached without any electronic media (but utilizes a number of props). It is designed around the story of Nicodemus in the Gospel of John, who says that he knows THAT Jesus comes from God. Jesus eventually tells him that whoever believes IN Him shall be saved. So what is the difference? The message utilizes three stories from law enforcement, implementing the tools of the trade (a bullet proof vest, a badge and a handgun!) to show how belief IN something requires a level of trust that is not present in belief THAT situations.
